Dating Profile Photos — A Real Photographer for an Online World

Online dating is now the default. Most relationships in the U.S. start on an app, and apps are visual-first. The math is unforgiving: women swipe right on men around 6% of the time, and the photos are doing nearly all the work in that decision. If your profile photos are bathroom mirror selfies, weekend group shots where you can’t tell which one is you, or that suit photo from a wedding three years ago, the algorithm and the people swiping will both punish you.

A professional dating profile shoot fixes that. We’re not creating fake or misleading photos — we’re showing the real you, in good light, in flattering angles, with composition that helps your photo do its actual job. Which is to make people want to swipe right and start a conversation.

Who this is for

The honest answer: most of my dating profile clients are professionals between 35 and 55, often after a divorce or a long relationship, who haven’t had decent photos taken of themselves in years. They have great careers, full lives, and are perfectly attractive in person — but their photo library is full of work headshots and family snapshots, neither of which works for a dating app.

It’s also for people in the early stages of online dating who want to put their best foot forward from day one rather than slowly figure out what works. And for anyone who’s been on the apps for a while without much luck and is starting to suspect the photos might be the problem.

What we’ll shoot

A typical session runs ninety minutes and covers a mix of looks the apps reward:

The clear, well-lit portrait. Your face, in good light, with a real smile. This is the lead photo on your profile and it’s the most important. Most people don’t have one.

The “doing something” shot. You in your element — at the gym, on a hike, with your dog, working on something you care about. Apps reward profiles that show personality, not just headshots.

The full-body shot. People do scroll for this. Letting the photo show who you are head-to-toe is more honest and more effective than trying to hide it.

A relaxed lifestyle frame. Coffee shop, park, a city street. Something that feels candid — meaning planned to look unplanned, which is a real photographic skill.

A clean second portrait. A different angle or expression for the second profile slot. People swipe through. The second photo confirms what the first photo promised.

Sessions and booking

Dating profile sessions run two hours and cover indoor and outdoor locations, multiple wardrobe variations, and a mix of polished portraits and relaxed lifestyle frames. For current pricing, see the Sessions section on the homepage.

Hair and makeup artist available as an add-on — recommended for women, optional for men.

If you have a specific request — additional locations, longer session for a more comprehensive library of images, or anything else not standard — please email [email protected] to discuss. I’ll work up a custom quote that fits exactly what you need.

What sets this work apart

I’ve spent two decades photographing people for a living. The skill of getting a stranger to relax, drop their guard, and look genuinely like themselves on camera is the entire job — and it’s mostly invisible to the client because if I’m doing it right, you’re not thinking about it. You’re just having a conversation with me while I take pictures.

The other thing worth knowing: dating profile photography is photographically very close to lifestyle portraiture, which I’ve been doing professionally since the late 90s. Magazine portrait work, editorial assignments, environmental portraits — same skill set. I bring real lighting, real composition, real direction. Not just a phone and a hope.

Lifestyle portrait, Baltimore street

Discreet, tasteful, modern

A few things this work is NOT: it’s not bro-marketing. It’s not tactical “alpha posing” nonsense. It’s not promises of guaranteed matches. It’s not aggressive retouching that makes you look unrecognizable. It’s tasteful, professional portrait work that produces photos that look like the best version of the real you, on a great day, in good light. That’s it. That’s all you need.

Sessions are discreet. Your photos belong to you. I don’t post client work from these sessions on the public portfolio without explicit permission.
